Bardstown Bourbon Company Discovery Series #9 Last Drop Review

Last Drop Review
A review designed to explore how a bottle changes over the time it’s opened.

Somehow, I forgot to write a review on this bottle when I opened it – so I am making up for lost time as I finish up one of Bardstown’s halo products from 2022. Pictures are of Discovery #4 since I forgot to photograph this bottle!

Age: Combination of 8, 12, and 17 year old whiskies

ABV: 56.25%

Cask: New Oak

MSRP: $129

Distillery Name: Bardstown Bourbon Company

Open For:  1.5 Years

Opinion Through the Bottle: When I opened the bottle it was good, but I struggled when comparing to the Discovery #4 (my favorite of the series). It lacked some of the dark, leathery tones of earlier Discoveries and instead forced me to reconsider my expectations. But once I got through the initial challenges, I fell in love with it.

The middle of the bottle is where this exceled opening up to a floral, fruity, with just enough of the darker oak tones I had been expecting. I would routinely grab this if I wanted to enjoy a more approachable top shelfer. As it reached the end of the bottle, more of the oak and spice appeared, drying out the finish much more than my original pours.

Score: 91

Will I restock this? I would absolutely buy Discovery #9 again if I had the chance. It was brighter than other Discovery editions and had more of a candied fruity character than something like a Discovery #4 but came into its own after being opened for a few months. Worthy of the elevated price point of Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Discovery Series.
