Old Forester Signature 100 Proof Shelf Review
Old Forester is a brand on a mission. With recent releases like the 150th Anniversary, their new barrel proof private selection program, and Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, it’s clear that Old Forester is setting their sights on the enthusiast market. But on the other end of the spectrum is the widely available Signature 100 Proof expression that promises bolder flavors, more heat, and more complexity than the standard Old Forester 86 proof. But is it worth the plunge? I picked up this bottle at Costco on sale to find out.

Nose: Musty, fruity, and funky with lots of banana notes. A touch astringent with some alcohol burn. As it settles, more Crème Brûlée, coconut, burnt sugar, and overripe fruit are present.
Palate: Banana, banana, and more banana. Chocolate cream custard. Like a Coney Island chocolate dipped banana. Reminds me of a funky Jamaican rum with lots of esters and fruit notes. More maple syrup, touch of acetone, and big sweetness. Mouthfeel is fine, nothing special but the proof helps create a quick burst of heat.
Finish: Short finish. There’s some oak and significantly drier than the palate and has a pinch of bitterness. You lose the big fruit notes, and instead get a chalky and dry finish. A slightly odd and disappointing finish for such a flavorful bourbon.
