Glen Grant 12 Shelf Review
Shelf Review
Designed to give you all the quick hit information you need when you’re standing in front of your local liquor store’s whisky shelf.
For whisky drinkers in the US, Glen Grant may not be a well-known name. But this 12 year old Speyside hails from a distillery that has been making whisky since 1840. The Glen Grant distillery, located in the town of Rothes, is now part of the Campari Group, and is a major contributor to the Chivas Blends. Glen Grant 12 debuted as an official distillery offering in the US in 2016, and launched along with a travel retail exclusive 12 year non-fill filtered version, and an older 18 year version.

Nose: The nose starts sweet with vanilla, and crisp green apples. It also comes off as a bit herbal and grassy with lots of malt and a dash of honey.
Palate: More crisp green apples and orchard fruits. Melon notes also jump out of the glass creating a refreshing and light mouthfeel. There’s a bright sweetness that makes Glen Grant 12 incredibly easy to drink. As the whisky opens up, more lemon peel and honey shine. Not much wood influence comes through on the palate, with the malt taking center stage.
Finish: Short and sweet finish. There’s a little wisp of spice, but it fades quickly. Bursts of honey give a sweetness that eventually transitions into a more minerally and clean, finish. While more wood comes through on the finish, it is still very muted.
