Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition Review

In-Depth Review

I thought the age of celebrity whisky was over.

Gone are the days of whiskies with ambiguous origins being slapped with a celebrity name and sold for big bucks. Rewind to 2018, 2019 and it felt like every week there was a new “hot” celebrity whisky being launched. But as the overall whisky boom has slowed, it seems like many celebrities have instead turned their attention to tequila and mezcal to get their branding fix.

Despite that shift, Dr. Bill Lumsden (of Glenmorangie and Ardbeg fame) has partnered with world famous actor Harrison Ford to create the simply named Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition. It’s a no-age stated whiskey that was originally aged in ex-bourbon casks before blending with a parcel of toasted casks that previously held Portuguese red wine. Bottled at 46.5% and retailing for $99, it sits smack dab in the middle of the Glenmorangie lineup – above its core offerings but below things like Signet and their 25 year old releases. But is Harrison’s Ford’s seal of approval enough to justify seeking this out? Let’s dive in and decide for ourselves.

Age: Non-Age Stated

ABV: 46.5%

Cask: Bourbon and Toasted Portuguese Red Wine Casks

MSRP: $99

Distillery Name: Glenmorangie Distillery

Review Date: 8/14/26

Color: Medium Gold

Nose: The nose starts with a strong floral and malt funk accented by sugar cookie, roasted almonds, and a streak of red berries. It’s got a lovely density, with none of the typical light, flowery Speyside character to it.

Palate: It remains bright on the front palate with vibrant notes of apricot, caramel, citrus, and chocolate before shifting into something more tannic and dry. On the back half of the palate, oak begins to dominate, and the warming spice shifts towards a more aggressive heat.

Finish: Medium length finish with a splash of citrus acidity, vegetal bitterness, and lingering oak.  The finish does stick around a while but struggles to achieve the intrigue of the nose and front half of the palate.

Final Thoughts: This Glenmorangie Harrison Ford Limited Edition is another reminder that just because you love a celebrity, doesn’t mean you should run out and grab their latest branded product. While this does provide an unusual take on the traditionally light and approachable Glenmorangie profile – it can be hard to justify at its nearly $100 price point. But truly, this is a tale of two halves – as the nose and front end of the palate were fantastic examples of vibrant, fruit forward scotch whisky – while the back of the palate and finish become dry and tannic. Perhaps the red wine casks were too impactful for the bourbon cask maturation, or perhaps this is truly just a profile that I struggle with. But whatever it was, I wouldn’t run out to grab this again. It’s a solid step up from their typical core lineup, but I think there are more interesting expressions from Glenmorangie for less money.
