Longrow 114 Proof Review

In-Depth Review

I think it’s fair to say - Longrow is for the nerds. Coming out of Campbeltown’s famous Springbank Distillery, the Longrow brand is responsible for their double distilled heavily peated style of whisky. It flies under the radar for most whisky nerds – but for those who know, they know. Featuring a very small range of core products, Longrow is known for small runs of its deeply smokey distillate and plethora of limited editions and remains highly sought after by the nerdiest of whisky nerds.

Today we are trying batch 1 of Longrow’s new 114 proof expression that features a combination of whiskies aged in ex-bourbon and ex-Pinot Noir red wine casks. Bottled at 57% ABV, and without chill filtration, this promises a heavily peated, high-octane experience that should show off a more aggressive style from Springbank. Poking around, it seems like this bottle already made the rounds late last year in other parts of the world but seems to have just recently arrived in Southern California. But is it worth more than the $119 MSRP you’d be lucky to find it at? Let’s dive in and find out.

Age: Non-Age Stated

ABV: 57%

Cask: Mixture of refill bourbon and refill Pinot Noir casks

MSRP: $119

 Distillery Name: Springbank Distillery

Review Date: 6/9/26

Color: 9 Karat Gold

Nose: The nose begins with warm bread, strawberries, and clean white smoke. Then comes waves of green apple, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Then it finally settles into heather, more clean smoke, and wood oil. And while the nose can give off a young character, it’s never brash or hot.

Palate: The palate is classic seaside peat. After getting past the smoke, it’s a vibrant grape soda, apple peel, and hazelnut. The fruitiness is fantastic throughout – and is complimented on the midpalate by melted vanilla ice cream. It runs hot – but the mouthfeel is solid and more than makes up for some youthful edges.

Finish: Long lingering finish with notes of marshmallow, heavily toasted crème brulee, and more red fruits. Poking out between sips is more white smoke, salted fish, and more of the maritime sea breeze.

Final Thoughts: Wow. This Longrow 114 Proof may be one of the best peated expressions I’ve had out of Springbank Distillery. Every sip brings are layers upon layers of clean smoke – with the Pinot Noir casks doing a great job of cutting through with bursts of fruity sweetness. In 2026, there’s something rewarding about enjoying a non-age stated scotch this much – as though we’ve discovered something that the single cask fanboys and age statements snobs may never look twice at. But if you have the chance to grab a bottle - and you’re a fan of maritime peat - this hotter than average Longrow is worth every bit of its MSRP – and maybe even a bit more.
